Trigger Vale Displays Rams at Bendigo Sheep Show and Hamilton Sheepvention.
Trigger Vale Polls are exactly the type of sheep that the industry is crying out for so we decided to display our rams for the wider sheep community to view and consider for their sheep production system. For the first time visitor at both Bendigo and Hamilton we were happy with the interest, particularly with the variety of inquiry which came from merino breeders, first-cross breeders and comeback breeders, all interested in Trigger Vale Polls for different reasons.

Trigger Vale fires up for a $2050 top
Bond and White Suffolk rams sold to a top of $2050 at the Bouffler familys Trigger Vale sale at Lockhart last week. Brothers, Andrew and Philip Bouffler, sold 104 rams from 140 offered for an average of $1005. In the breakdown, the White Suffolk rams sold to a top of $1550 and averaged $900 and the Bond Merinos topped at $2050 and returned a $1178 average. Wagga Wagga auctioneers,James Tierney, Elders and Tim Francis and Evan Travis, both of H. Francis & Co., were on the rostrum. Buyers came from all over with astrong contingent from as far as Gundagai, Geelong, Booligal, West Wyalong and areas in between.
Stud principle, Andrew Bouffler, was pleased with the sale and said the average was abouton par with last year. "The sale was strong without being spectacular" he said."We had 90 per cent clearance for our Bond Merinos and although the White Suffolk clearance was down on last year's sale, average prices were up." He said the sale result reflected a swing back towards Bond Merinos with many buyers planning replacement programs. Anthony Hicks, "Buccluch Villa", Lowesdale, paid $2050 for the top priced Bond Merino ram of the catalogue. He also bought a second Bond sire for $1800. Meanwhile Steven Taylor, Giles Creek White Suffolk Stud, secured the top priced White Suffolk ram for $1500. Volume purchasers included Terry Goldsworthy, "Courallie" Junee, who bought 10 rams which included a mix of Bonds and White Suffolks to a top of $1900 and Peter Forbes "Woodend" Lockhart. - Well done to Bryce Miller who sold lambs for $158 at the Wagga Market last week this follows on from Feb-March 2009 when he topped the Wagga Lamb Market 4 times in six weeks, top price being $156 with lambs out of Trigger Vale Bond Ewes.
Peter and Kelly Crawford of Junee are other clients who have been having fantastic outcomes with Trigger Vale genetics. They have been pushing the boundaries in their Bond flock by joining their ewe lambs at 7-8 months of age to lamb down at 12 months. This year they pregnancy tested 60% with many multiples which should result in an 80% overall percentage. The dry’s are sold in the prime pens as they still have their lambs teeth. This is an amazing result which Peter thinks is very repeatable if the ewe lambs reach above 45kg’s by joining. With Trigger Vale placing a lot of selection pressure on post weaning weights to allow clients to turn off lambs earlier a huge secondary benefit is that this selection pressure will ensure a higher percentage of ewe lambs can achieve this weight to allow lambing down at 12 months of age. The impact this result will have on the overall lifetime ewe income and business profits is immense. The Crawford’s also averaged around $125 for their lambs through Wagga Sale yards if you take the value of wool from their lamb shearing into account. The Crawford’s also purchase White Suffolks to join with their older ewes and cull Bonds in a terminal program.
